Oasis Hong Kong Airlines Maiden Flight Cancelled

by Ruth on October 25th, 2006

Oh drats! The maiden flight of Oasis Hong Kong Airlines, a low-cost airline flying between HK and London, just got cancelled. It was supposed to leave London-Gatwick at 1pm (0500 GMT), but about five-and-a-half hours later, the pilot asked the passengers to leave the plane.

Reason? Russian aviation authorities refused to let them fly over Russian territory.

Earlier, the airline said in a statement that “despite all paperwork being in order and having received all necessary approvals, the Russian authorities, for unexplained reasons, have chosen to hold up the over-flight rights.”

It had been communicating with Russian authorities, but apparently reached no agreement that would allow the Boeing 747-400 to take off.

Uh-oh. This doesn’t bode well.
