Macau: Not Just For Gamblers; Kids Welcome, Too!
“I came up with the idea for Fisherman’s Wharf after a lifetime of travel: I wanted to take the best parts from all over the world and bring them to Macau. Although we have incorporated some elements of local culture, when you walk around Fisherman’s Wharf, you will not feel that you are in Macau. The idea behind the whole project was to attract families to Macau, as there were few venues where children and parents could go to together to enjoy themselves.”
That’s coming from international tycoon, Mr. David Chow Kamfai, a bigwig in Macau, being the CEO of one of the most ambitious tourism projects the Pearl River Delta has ever seen, owner of a world-class hotel and office complex in Macau, owner of a luxurious private club, and a dynamic politician and active diplomat.
Hm. Well, I don’t know, but when I go to Macau, I’d like to see Macau for itself– its rich culture and heritage. But obviously, Mr. Chow has a different market in mind. With the growing middle class in mainland China eager to spend their $, Mr. Chow offers a chance to get a glimpse of the world, without leaving the shores of Macau. With a budget of $300 million, Mr. Chow built the Fisherman’s Wharf on reclaimed land and put up a family-oriented entertainment complex in the likes of Xanadu.
“As Fisherman’s Wharf transforms from dream into reality, visitors arriving to Macau by ferry may be doing a double-take when they catch their first glimpse of scenes from what could be Miami, Rome, Old England, or even Mount Vesuvius.”
Might be a trifle kitschy, but at least, the Fisherman’s wharf offers something for the non-gambling tourists to Macau!
