Me and this Weblog
I’ve a strong suspicion that I was a gypsy in my past life. I was born in the Philippines and has traipsed through the archipelago, from Ilocos Norte, down to General Santos City before I even turned quarter of a century old. About 10 years ago (oops, am I revealing my age here?) my exploration of Asia started as part of my work with the International Rice Research Institute. Since then I knew what an enthralling place Asia is.
Curently residing halfway across the globe, I find myself constantly planning and daydreaming about my next Asian trip. In fact, my ultimate dream, which luckily is shared by my better half, is to one day go back and live in Asia for good. There’s just something in the breeze of the Orient Seas drawing us to the warmth (literally and figuratively speaking) and vivre that is only in Asia.
If thereÂs one place that fascinates me most, itÂs Asia. ItÂs a cultural melting pot, and to a traveller, offers a vast variety of experiences. I think within Asia alone, even a lifetime of travelling wonÂt suffice to explore all its interesting nook and crannies. On the other hand, if youÂre not Asian, I can imagine the angst and the logistical difficulties travelling to and within the region. Where do you stay? Will the people understand you? Is it safe? How do you get there? And if you come halfway round the world to discover Asia, how do you get the most of your stay?
These are some of the questions this blog will try to help you with. However, let me be clear from the very beginning that I am not a travel agent. When I start sounding like one, beep me, because that is not how I want this to be. Although I will try to alert you readers on the goings-on in Asia worth your holiday time, IÂd like this blog to have a more personal note. From time to time, I may point to stories from other blogs chronicling their latest Asian trip, allowing you a peek into what you could experience, too. Where I have been, IÂd like to share my experiences and give tips. Where I havenÂt been, allow me to tell you why IÂm fantasising going there. And together, letÂs discover what great pleasures and adventures awaits us…in Asia!
